Sékou Mara is the Girondins' newest professional! The young forward has signed up for three seasons.

The Girondins de Bordeaux are very pleased to announce that Sékou Mara has agreed terms on his first professional deal. The youngster, a graduate of the Girondins Academy, has signed a three-year contract (until June 2023).

A doubly special day for Sékou, who signed his first professional contract on his eighteenth birthday!

Sékou was born on 30 July 2002 in Paris, where he started out with the Paris SG youh set-up. After three seasons there he made the move to AC Boulogne-Billancourt, and it was there that he first caught the eye of Bordeaux's scouts. He signed for the Girondins 2015, but remained with his local club for the next two seasons. He finally made the move to Bordeaux in 2017, at th age of 15.

Sékou rapidly found his feet at Le Haillan, moving up through the different youth teams and also earning his first international caps. Between 2017 and 2019 he was called up six times (and scored one goal) for the France U16 and U17s.

Sékou has been training with the first team squad since pre-season began. A few days ago he featured in a behind-the-scenes video on girondins.com (see below - Sékou appears at 3:35). He describes himself as a "positional attacker," capable of "switching things up, breaking free, making calls for long balls and finding space."

The club is thrilled to see this talented young player take the step up from the Academy to the professional squad. Sékou is the eighth young player to turn pro with the Girondins this summer, further proof of the exceptional quality of the club's youth training set-up.

We are all very much looking forward to watching Sékou continue to progress and improve in navy blue, and we wish him all the best for his career and this new chapter in his life. Now it's up to him to prove himself in training and earn himself some game time!

Félicitations Sékou !
