A magical left foot
Malcom was born on 26th February 1997 in Sao Paulo and trained at the SC Corinthians youth academy, where he turned professional in 2014. He made 72 appearances in all competitions across two seasons with his hometown club, scoring ten goals. Used mostly as a left winger, Malcom's speed and technical skill proved to be irresistible.
As part of the Brazil U20 squad, he travelled to New Zealand for the 2015 World Cup. He made 5 appearances during the tournament, coming on as a 74th-minute sub in the final (Brazil lost 2-1 to Serbia in extra time). At just 18, Malcom already knew how it felt to come within a whisker of being world champions! In a twist of footballing irony, Brazil's opponents in that final were a Serbian side which included... a certain Milan Gajic, responsible for marking Malcolm.
Malcom's superb ball skills were put to good use in the 2016/2017 season, with 9 goals and 5 assists for the Girondins. He played in 37 of Bordeaux's 38 Ligue 1 games, with his capacity to get round defenders proving to be decisive on numerous occasions.
