An experienced defender
Born 30th May 1985 in Białystok (Poland), Igor Lewczuk started his career with local club Hetman Białystok, in the 4th tier of Polish football. He signed for Znicz Pruszków in 2006, progressing from the 3rd to the 2nd division. His performances drew interest from high places, and Igor slowly but surely made his way up through the ranks.
He made his top-flight debut with Jagiellonia Białystok at the age of 23, playing two full seasons and winning the Polish Cup in 2010. He subsequently spent a spell on loan with Piast Gliwice before signing for Polish first division side Ruch Chorzów.
Here again Igor became a pillar of the team, completing two full seasons before departing for Zawisza Bydgoszcz in 2013. This move helped take his career to the next level. As a permanent fixture of the Bydgoszcz defence he won the Polish cup, played 36 games and attracted the attention of Legia Warsaw. He also earned two caps with the national side.
Igor enjoyed two excellent seasons with Legia, winning the Polish Cup in 2015 and the Cup-championship double in 2016! That's four cup triumphs with three different teams, and a league winner's medal to boot!
In his first season in Bordeaux, Igor Lewczuk made 33 appearances in all competitions. He has impressed the coaches with both his defensive capabilities and his approach to the game, collecting just four yellow cards in the 2016/2017 season. This season he will be back on familiar ground with the Europa League, a competition he first discovered with Legia Warsaw.
