Bordeaux beat Toulouse in the Garonne Derby (1-3)
A superb victory over our old rivals.
Latecomers to the Stadium will be cursing the Toulouse transport system! In the very first minute of the game, Nicolas De Préville opened the score with a fantastic shot from the edge of the box (0-1, 1’). Connecting with a smart ball from Mexer, NDP set Bordeaux on the path to victory.
The Girondins were totally dominant in the opening exchanges of this game, as the hosts struggled to hold onto the ball. Nicolas de Préville was on fire, smashing a free kick off the crossbar. The Bordeaux attacks kept on coming, so it was no surprise when Pablo doubled the Girondins' lead. Rising to connect with another free kick struck by the ubiquitous De Préville, the Brazilian made it 2-0 Bordeaux (19’).
The chances kept coming after the break, and Hwang made it 3 - 0 with a fantastic, dipping shot from 20 yards out (53’). After an hour of play at the Stadium, Toulouse had still failed to create a single chance. Bordeaux were bossing this derby on their own terms.
But then a well-taken goal from Koulouris gave TFC a glimmer of hope (1-3, 61’), and the last 30 minutes were a little less one-sided. Toulouse finally began to play some football, but despite testing Benoït Costil a few times they never really came close to pulling it back.
The first Garonne Derby ended 3-1 to Bordeaux, a fair result for a dominant display by the Girondins.
