Bordeaux narrowly beaten by the champions (0-1)
PSG put an end to the Girondins' winning run
Bordeaux lost to PSG by the narrowest of margins, despite an imperial performance from Benoît Costil.
Bordeaux's winning run came to an end this evening at the hands of PSG. Paris were more pragmatic than flamboyant, creating a multitude of opportunities but only once finding the net (69').
Catching the Girondins out in midfield, Mbappé retrieved the ball and fired in a powerful cross for Neymar at the back post. The Brazilian ace simply tapped the ball into the empty net (0-1, 70').
This was the only moment of the 90 minutes in which Benoît Costil was anything less than perfect: with five fantastic saves, including shots from both Neymar (28') and Mbappé (62'), the keeper and captain was on wonderful form today.
But Paris' relentless pressure ultimately stifled the Girondins and prevented them from getting their attacking game off the ground. It wasn't until virtually the end of the first half that Bordeaux got a chance on goal, in the form of a shot from Aurélien Tchouaméni (42').
The arrival of French international Kylian Mbappé in the second half changed the course of htis match. The striker provided the spark that PSG had been missing, creating the goal that sealed the points.
The Girondins tried their level best to equalise, but Paris were solid at the back and gave nothing away. Benoît Costil's incredible work at the back kept Bordeaux's hopes alive, but the Girondins never managed to get past PSG.
Next up for the Girondins : a big away game in Toulouse next weekend.
