No Champagne in Reims: 0-0
Bordeaux held to a draw
The Girondins travelled to the Champagne region to face Reims in their 8th game of the Ligue 1 season, returning home with a point.
The Girondins were happy to let Reims do most of the work in the first half, waiting for a chance to strike on the counter. Both sides were solid at the back, and neither created any real chances on goal in the early exchanges.
Reims did their best to produce something, but Konan's speculative cross from the left wing came to nothing (14'). Suk tried something similar, but Jules Koundé headed the danger away (16'). The Korean striker had the best chance of the game so far in the 29th minute, but his shot grazed the outside of Benoît Costil's left post.
Bordeaux looked to respond via the flanks, with both Maxime Poundjé and Youssouf Sabaly (18' and 32') floating in crosses that found no takers inside the box. Zaydou Youssouf took matters into his own hands with a long shot from 40 yards out, but it lacked power (31'). Six minutes later he fired a free kick in the direction of Jules Koundé, but it never quite got there.
Both teams looked a little more lively after the break. Chavaleri laid off for Chavarria at the back post, who teed up a shot for Suk... who didn't quite follow it up (47').
Both sides began to resort to long shots, with Lukas Lerager (51') and Cafaro (57') exchanging fruitless efforts from distance. Neither team really looked like winning. The best chance of the evening fell to Reims in the 71st minute, but Chavarria was just a step off the pace and couldn't put the finishing touch to what had been a very good move.
Eric Bédouet attempted to turn things around with three late substitutions, but to no avail. Still, the Girondins are unbeaten in three games and notched up one more point.
