Brazilian international joins the Girondines
The Girondins de Bordeaux are thrilled to announce the arrival of Tainara De Souza Da Silva. The Brazilian central defender joins us on a 2 1/2 year deal which will keep her at the club until June 2024.
Tainara was born in April 1999 in Brasilia, and started her professional career in 2016 with São Francisco (BA), making her debut in a cup game. The following season she established herself in the first team, making 9 league appearances before moving to Vitória (BA) where she made 14 more (scoring 2 goals).
In 2020, Tainara moved to Santos (6 matches, 1 goal) before a successful 2021 season with Palmeiras (10 appearances, 2 goals) which saw the club finish second in the league, just one point behind Corinthians.
Tainara has also represented her country on numerous occasions, including two World Cups at youth level (U17 and U20). She won her first senior cap in 2021 in a 4-1 victory over old rivals Argentina. Recognised for her strong performances with Palmeiras, she has so far won 7 caps.
Francisco Fardilha was delighted to announce this latest signing: "We are very happy, and indeed proud, to welcome Tainara to Bordeaux. She is a highly-talented player, and also an experienced professional despite her young age. She has already won several caps with Brazil, and is as formidable at marking as she is when clearing the lines. She is a true professional, with all the qualities needed to progress even further. In my opinion, she has what it takes to become one of the best central defenders in the world. I also want to thank Tainara and her team for the way this transfer has been handled. She had offers from some of Europe's biggest clubs, and in spite of the sums on offer Tainara gave her word and stood by it. She is going to be a superb addition to the squad."
Tainara is a very promising, gifted and flexible player who will be an invaluable addition to the Bordeaux defence. The club is very pleased to welcome this bright young talent.
