Girondines secure a vital win against top-of-the-table rivals Paris FC

Bad news for anyone arriving late at Stade Charléty this evening, as they would have missed Vanessa Gilles's superb 4th-minute goal! A goal from a set piece which set the tone for the evening.

Rapid going forward, pressing hard when not in possession, Bordeaux ran the Paris FC defence ragged. Katja Snoeijs tested the keeper twice early on (2’, 9’), then eventually made the difference with another assist. In the 22nd minute, she picked out Melissa Gomes who deftly shrugged off a defender and fired the ball past PFC keeper Nnadozie.

Paris attempted to regain control of the ball, but they were always at risk from the Girondines' lightning counter-attacks. Katja Snoeijs and Claire Lavogez came within a whisker of making it 3-0 (29’), and Maelle Garbino also had a decent chance (35’).

After the break, the game resumed at the same breakneck pace. Snoeijs (46’) and Garbino (47’) probed the Parisian defence early on, and after just five minutes the game took a dramatic turn when Orianne Jean-François was shown a red card.

The next 20 minutes were all one-way traffic in Bordeaux's favour, and this looked like a locked-on victory until Paris suddenly and unexpectedly pulled one back when Mateo snuck into the box and got the better of Mylène Chavas (75’).

The last fifteen minutes were scrappy, as PFC pushed forward as best they could and Bordeaux struggled to land the knock-out blow. The blow finally came in stoppage time, when Eve Périsset pounced on a botched clearance and put the game to bed (90+4’).

A very important victory for the Girondines, and the first time this season they have racked up two consecutive wins!

Next game: Saturday 20 November against MHSC.
