At Agen's Stade Armandie, the Girondins were held to a draw by Toulouse (L2) in their third pre-season game. Gaëtan Poussin stopped a penalty and produced a fine stop to save the day late-on (89').
In their 3rd pre-season friendly, the Girondins were unable to get the better of south-west rivals Toulouse FC (0-0). Bordeaux were outgunned in the first half, but the second period was more evenly-matched. The summer heat certainly played a part, but in the stands the crowd did a good job of observing the Coronavirus prevention measures.
With an hour already on the clock, Gaëtan Poussin stopped a penalty taken by Koulouris. This magisterial save was probably the highlight of the game for Bordeaux. Up the other end, Alexandre Mendy missed the target with a spectacular volley (65’) and Hwang Ui-Jo threated on several occasions but could not quite find the net (76’, 77’ and 85’).
In the dying seconds of the game Gaëtan Poussin pulled off an incredible double save, clearing successive shots by Antiste off the line. The clean sheet was safe at last!
The first half had been dominated by TFC, but Alexandre Mendy fired in a promising shot in the 14th minute. Rémi Oudin also had a chance stopped by the Toulouse keeper. The coach took the opportunity to swtich up the team radically at half time, bringing on Kwateng, Baysse, Traoré, Zerkane, Hwang, De Préville and Maja to replace Cardoso, Mexer, Lacoux, Otavio, Oudin, Briand and Mendy. A hard-fought draw, as the pre-season preparations continue apace!
