Girondines on top form against St John's University [0-3]

The girls' US tour kicked off with victory in Queens, New York.

FéMININES - Thursday, March 21, 2019 - 01:32

Carol (32'), Maëlle Garbino (60') and Claire Lavogez (80') all found the net to seal a decisive victory for the travelling Girondines. A fast-flowing game with plenty of chances on goal, especially in the second half. And an excellent result for Bordeaux, 4000 miles from home!  Bravo!

In his pre-match interview, Jérôme Dauba insisted that it was a "pleasure to be here." His players certainly agreed. They took the coach's advice and played with a sense of freedom and enjoyment in their opening US match against St John's University.

Bordeaux had little to worry about in this march. Their first shot on goal came early on, courtesy of Carol. Their American hosts pushed forward and created a few sticky situations, but couldn't get close to the Girondines' goal.

In the 32nd minute, Carol put Bordeaux into the lead with a spectacular free kick! The second half was all one-way traffic, with Maëlle Garbino (60') doubling the lead and Claire Lavogez finishing off the job with a magnificent lob ten minutes before the end!

Well done to the girls, flying the flah for French "soccer" stateside. Tomorrow they head to Washington, enthusiasm intact.
