Bordeaux victorious thanks to late Viviane Asseyi goal(80’).
D1FéMININE - Saturday, September 14, 2019 - 16:45
The Girondines got the better of Montpellier with an excellent collective performance, capped off with a late goal from Viviane Asseyi (80').
The smiles on the faces of players and fans at Le Bouscat's Stade Sainte-Germaine said it all - victory over direct rivals Montpellier means so much to the Girondines as they kept their strong start to the season going.
The decisive moment in this close-fought game came in the 80th minute, when Viviane Asseyi scored the only goal of the afternoon. But that strike was simply the highlight of a superb collective performance.
Ultimately it was a game of two halves, with the Girondines dominating possession in the first period as they put Pedro Martinez Losa's plans into action. They piled the pressure on the visitors, with Khadija Shaw coming close to scoring several times. Between the posts, Erin Nayler pulled off a fine save to deny Petermann.
Montpellier looked much better in the second half, and it took a flying save from Nayler to keep out a goal-bound shot from Puntigam. Ultimately Asseyi's 80th-minute strike sealed the game in Bordeaux's favour.
Victory left the Girondines as provisional D1 leaders, pending the results of the Paris and Lyon games! Bravo Mesdemoiselles !
