Bordeaux thrash Marseille (3-0)

Pedro Martinez Losa's side dominated this game from start to finish

D1FéMININE - Saturday, October 19, 2019 - 16:49

Bordeaux sealed an emphatic victory this afternoon to put them right back in the title race. Three more points from another thrilling attacking performance.

Cheered on by the UltraMarines, Pedro Martinez Losa's started brightly and created chances immediately. Picked out by Claire Lavoguez on the right wing, Emelyne Laurent was just onside but couldn't quite control her shot (1’). Marseille's first chance came from a free kick, but Erin Nayler had it covered (3’).

The Girondines soon asserted their dominance in midfield, despite a few fouls conceded through excessive zeal. Marseille seemed to be lacking in ideas going forward, unlike Bordeaux: Claire Lavogez headed down for Viviane Asseyi, who coolly slotted the ball between the legs of OM keeper Joly (16'; 1-0). Khadija Shaw was a constant threat in attack, creating two early chances (13’ ; 26’). Her first shot lacked a little power, the second had too much and ended up in the stands. Not long before the break, a Marseille handball gave Bordeaux a golden opportunity to double their lead. Viviane Asseyi duly converted the spot-kick with a perectly-placed penalty (38’). Vanessa Gilles (42’) and Charlotte Bilbault (43’) both had chances to make it three before half-time.

The Girondines were two goals clear at the break, with OM showing no sign of catching up.

Marseille did look a little brighter in the second half, but their efforts went unrewarded. When Pizzala's free kick was pushed away by Vanessa Gilles, Zahot responded with a snap volley which Andrea Lardez did very well to clear off the line (53’). As the second period wore on Bordeaux began to dominate again. Emelyne Laurent timed her run to perfection to connect with a long ball and take it round the keeper: the Girondines were three goals clear (63’ ; 3-0).

The visitors tested Erin Nayler on a few occasions (68’ ; 72’), but as time ticked away their frustration began to get the better of them. Hamidou saw yellow for a harsh tackle on Ines Jaurena (59’), before the OM goalkeeper got herself sent off for two yellow cards  (65’ ; 79’). The Girondines were content to cruise home, running down the clock to a solid victory (3-0). Pedro Martinez Losa's reacted in the best possible manner to last week's upset at the hands of Guingamp (1-2).
