A 4th place finish!

Girondines finish the season with a draw against Paris FC (1-1)

MATCH D1 - Saturday, May 4, 2019 - 16:35

After a tightly-fought game, the Girondines wrapped up the best season in the club's history with a draw against Paris FC.

Things got off to a tentative start in this final game, with neither side producing much in the way of attacking movement in the first fifteen minutes.

As has so often been the case this season, Bordeaux's first promising moments came courtesy of Viviane Asseyi. In the 14th minute the striker found herself in a one-on-one with the Paris keeper, but the ball just ran away from her.

The visitors then created a flurry of chances, but Erin Nayler produced two super saves (38’, 39’). 0-0 at the break.

Things kicked up a gear in the second half, and in the 55th minute Sallstrom found a way through the Bordeaux defence, beating Nayler from close range (0-1). The Girondines refused to give in, and the rest of the game was one-way traffic as they pushed for an equaliser. Claire Lavogez rattled one off the bar (68’), before providing the assist for Kathellen Sousa to pull Bordeaux level (1-1, 74’).

The final minutes were frantic, but neither side could find a winner and the score stayed put: 1-1. The Girondines finish the season in fourth position in the top flight, the best performance in the history of women's football at the Girondins de Bordeaux!
