Julien Faubert is coming back to Bordeaux! Once the paperwork is complete, the free agent will be a Girondin once more. The flexible right-sided player will offer Francis Gillot new options in defence and midfield. Welcome back Julien!
The paperwork is still being finalised, but Julien Faubert is on the brink of signing with FC Girondins de Bordeaux until the end of the season. Currently a free agent after spending the first half of the season in Turkey, Julien's return to the squad offers a new right-sided solution to Francis Gillot and his coaching staff. When he last played for Bordeaux Julien wore the number 18, but Jaroslav Plasil has now made that shirt his own. Julien has therefore opted for squad number 22.
After starting out with AS Cannes in the National division (45 matches, 4 goals), Julien joined Bordeaux in the summer of 2004. Under the guidance of Michel Pavon the powerful right-back rapidly became a firm fixture in the Girondins' starting eleven.
He played 36 matches in L1 (scoring once) during his first season in the top flight. The arrival of Ricardo did not change this, with the Brazilian coach deploying Faubert at both right back and right wing. Julien was by now a pillar of the team. In that second season he played 34 matches in L1 and scored 5 times.
He also made his international debut in August 2006, marking his first international call-up against Bosnia by scoring the winning goal (1-2), and with the n°10 on his back! His third season with Bordeaux saw his first taste of European adventure, and his first trophy when the Girondins won the Coupe de la Ligue 2007, beating Lyon 1-0 in the final.
Faubert joined West Ham United in 2007. He spent 5 seasons in England, playing 69 matches in the Premier League (1 goal) and 34 in the Championship (1 goal). His time with West Ham also included a loan spell with Real Madrid where he played two matches in La Liga.
At the start of this season Julien set off for Turkey and Elazigspor. Various administrative problems put a premature end to this experience.
Julien is now back in France, at a club he knows well. It was at Bordeaux that his professional career took off, and we hope his come-back will be equally successful!
Welcome back to Le Haillan Julien !
