The Girondins de Bordeaux are delighted to confirm the arrival of Willy Sagnol as the club's new manager. The current head coach of the France U21 side has signed up for three seasons, his first management role in club football. Welcome to Bordeaux Willy, we wish you every success!

It's official: Willy Sagnol is the new manager of FC Girondins de Bordeaux. He will take up his post after the France U21s' tour of La Réunion. The ex-international has signed up for three years with the club, keeping him under contract until June 2017.

This will be Willy Sagnol's first taste of life as a manager in club football. He has been head coach of the France U21s since 2011, after previously working with the U20 side.He is currently preparing for the team's tour of La Réunion, where they will play a friendly against Singapore A on Monday 2nd June.

Although the former France right-back has not yet managed a club, he did serve on the coaching staff at AS Saint-Etienne in 2010. He has also served as a member of Bayern Munich's scouting team.

The legendary Bavarian club played a huge role in Willy Sagnol's playing career. After training at Saint-Etienne and winning a Ligue 1 title with Monaco (2000), he joined international colleague Bixente Lizarazu in Munich. From 2000 to 2009 he was a member of the team that won five Bundesliga titles (2001, 2003, 2005, 2006 and 2008), four German cups (2003, 2005, 2006 and 2008) and three league cups (2000, 2004 and 2007). He also helped Munich win the UEFA Champions League in 2001 and the Intercontinental Cup in that same year.

Willy Sagnol also won 58 caps for the national side, featuring in four major tournaments (World Cups in 2002 and 2006, Euro 2004 and 2008). He reached the World Cup final in 2006, and won the Confederations Cup in 2001 and 2003.

The Girondins de Bordeaux are delighted to welcome Willy Sagnol as the club's new first team coach.
