Marouane Chamakh made no secret of his enduring attachment for the Girondins when he appeared as a guest on the Téléfoot show last Sunday. If he ever plays in France again, it will be at Bordeaux.
Jean-Louis Triaud put out a call to Marouane Chamakh a few days ago, but has yet to receive a reply. The Moroccan striker, trained by the Girondins, gave his response on Sunday on the Téléfoot show. He spoke first about his current situation, admitting that it's impossible to compete with a Robin Van Persie who is in the best form of his career:
"It's not a difficult time for me, not at all. When a striker is walking on water (Van Persie), that's good for the team and you just have to accept that competition. If I play more games, of course I'm going to score more goals. It's all about momentum and I think my time will come. [...] I'll be making a really big decision in June. I can't stay in this situation indefinitely. I'm 27, I need to play."
Marouane then went on to discuss the call from Jean-Louis Triaud, insisting that he had not been aware of the call but was always ready to pick up the phone: "I heard a rumour that the president of Bordeaux had tried to get in touch with me. I'm going to try to sort that out because I didn't actually know at the time, so I'm going to get in touch with him. I don't really use my phone all that much."
Finally, he declared his affection for Bordeaux: "Yes my heart is still in Bordeaux, but we'd have to come to an agreement. But if I were to come back to France, it would be to Bordeaux. I'm really attached to the club and the city... that much is clear."
What is clear is that Marouane's comments are sure to reignite rumours of a homecoming. Watch this space!
